A few fragments from Memorial Day
the silhouettes of trees grow darker
the day eases to a close wrapped in satisfaction
the north and east hills weeded, the garage reorganized and swept
a gathering of children and their children
a few birds call into the deepening dusk
around the kitchen table the circling of energies within a well lit room; family
one son sits solitary as the coals cool and turn to ash
the day exerts its presence; one piece within the myriad puzzle of our lives
like some comfortable choreography
the interplay of hearts and minds and voices
I pray for even imperceptible deepenings and bonds
